Elamakkara residents, led by their councillor C.A.Shakeer, gheraoed the Assistant Executive Engineer at Kaloor sub-division of Kerala Water Authority over water scarcity.

The protestors forced the official to open the valve that controlled water flow to their area, and it helped step up the pressure in the pipes.

Three months ago, the Mayor had directed the authorities to streamline supply from another pipeline on the BTS Road to overcome the acute shortage of water. However, this valve was found closed, Mr Shakeer alleged.

The water authority official said the people faced shortage because of the low pressure from the main treatment plant over the last two days.
