Realising the importance of human resources in development, various organisations in the public and private sectors have set up institutions for providing training in various disciplines. Studies conducted by bodies in the industrial spectrum have pointed out the need for skilled manpower. The government has been lending a helping hand to different organisations to promote the skill development programmes.
One of the national level institutions which play a key role in providing skill training is the Indian Society for Training & development (ISTD).
A national level professional body, ISTD has membership of institutions and persons involved in the training and development of human resources. It has over 40 chapters in the country, including Kochi.
The organisation is affiliated to the International Federation of Training and Development Organisations (IFTDO), U.S.A, and ARTDO, Manila. ISTD organises various training programmes, some of which are held in collaboration with Planning Commission, Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Training Division of Department of Personnel, Government of India, according to S.R.Nair, chairman of the Kochi chapter.
