Three officials of the Aluva municipality filed for anticipatory bail before the District Sessions Court here on Wednesday after cases for abetment of suicide were registered against them in connection with the death of a municipality worker.
Aluva municipality chairman Jacob T.M., secretary A.S. Anuja, and Health Standing Committee chairman Rajan K.C. sought anticipatory bail after they were accused of abetting the suicide of Arumughan, a contingency worker of the municipality.
The case was registered following a court order on a petition filed by Arumughan’s kin.
His family said Arumugham had committed suicide as the municipality had not given him three months’ wages. The police have registered a case of unnatural death.
Arumugham was found dead in a well near his house at Aluva a day after he went to the municipality to demand that he be paid wage arrears amounting to Rs.3,220, said Manoj Vasu, counsel for Arumugham’s family. He said municipality officials had complained to the police that Arumugham was causing disturbance to them and that he was drunk when he came to their office to ask for wages. The police had registered a case against the deceased and also questioned him. His family said that the financial stress and the police case disturbed him greatly and he committed suicide.
