Kanjirapally legislator Alphons Kannanthanam had a miraculous escape on Saturday after his vehicle, hit by a bus, somersaulted several times on the National Highway-47 at Eramalloor near Aroor here.

Mr. Kannanthanam, who was driving his Scorpio from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam was overtaking a tourist bus at Eramalloor around 11.45 a.m. when the bus suddenly swerved to the right, hitting the Scorpio

in the process. Mr. Kannanthanam, also the lone passenger in his vehicle, lost control of the vehicle, which hit the divider and somersaulted several times before finally coming to a stop on the other side of the road.

Local residents helped Mr. Kannanthanam out of the vehicle, by which time the bus had fled the spot without stopping. The Aroor police, which rushed to the spot, said the legislator amazingly had no injuries and resumed his journey on another vehicle.

The tourist bus, meanwhile, was stopped by the police at Kundanoor near Kochi. Police said it would be taken into custody after the Nedumbassery airport-bound passengers were dropped at the airport.
