Kochi: Eloor Municipality will hold an all-party meeting next week to find a solution to the problem of water shortage in the area over the past two weeks that had resulted in the Opposition councillors walking out of the council meetings and staging protests.
Municipal Chairperson Siji Babu said that there was a shortage in the supply of water from FACT that had resulted in lower supplies in nine municipal wards.
She said that while the Supreme Court monitoring committee had ordered that the people in Eloor should be provided treated water as part of the corporate social responsibility by the major companies in the area, the supply of muddied water at times had resulted in the people staging protests.
These issues were taken up at a meeting in which the Kerala Water Authority had promised to make up for the lack of supply from FACT. However, the people also raised the issue of the presence of E.coli in the water supplied by the KWA. Water samples taken from one of the public taps in the municipality had tested positive for the bacteria.
As of now, it was unclear how much water was being provided by the KWA, she said.
