Akademi awards announced

The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Awards for 2012 have been announced.

The award winners are Thiruvananthapuram Krishnakumar-Binny Krishnakumar (Carnatic music); Vanaja Shankar (Carnatic music); Kalanilayam Babu (maddalam); Mavelikara Susheel Kumar (mridangam); Aleppey Vivekanandan (light music); Rajeev Alunkal (light music - lyricist); Manilal (playwright); Ravi Vallathol (radio play); Abhilash Pillai (direction - drama); Pattanam Rasheed (make-up); Kalamandalam Subramanian (Kathakali); Sreedevi Rajan (Mohiniyattom); Rajasree Warrier (Bharathanatyam); Aravinda Pisharody (Krishnanatom); Kelathu Kuttappa Marar (thimila); and Idakkochi Salim Kumar (Kathaprasangam).

Keezhillam Unnikrishnan (Mudiyettu) and Mala Ravi (drama) have been selected for the T. P. Sukumaran Memorial Endowment and C.I. Parameswaran Pillai Memorial Endowment awards respectively.

The awards carry a cash prize of Rs.7,500. a citation, a ponnada, and a plaque for each.

Akademi chairman Soorya Krishnamurthy and secretary P.V. Krishnan Nair announced the awards at a press conference here on Wednesday.
