Former Director General of Coast Guard Vice-Admiral (retd) M.P. Muralidharan on Friday assumed office as administrative member of the Kochi bench of Armed Forces Tribunal.
An alumnus of the national Defence Academy at Khadakvasla, Mr. Muralidharan was commissioned into the Navy in 1975 where he specialised in Navigation and Direction. In a career spanning four decades, he commanded the guided missile destroyer INS Ranvijay and was Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet. He also served as Naval Assistant to Chief of the Naval Staff and as Naval Attache at the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
On his promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral, he was Flag Officer Sea Training; Chief of Staff of the Western Naval Command; and Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra and Gujarat Area. Mr. Muralidharan, a resident of Vennala in Ernakulam, was the first Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala.
