The Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) is looking to widen the canvas of its ‘Arts and Medicine’ project by taking it to special schools and old-age homes in the city.
The first such programme will be organised at Raksha Special School at Panayappilly in Mattancherry on Thursday. The session, beginning at 10.30 a.m., will be led by singer Afsal.
Buoyed by the success of the ‘Arts and Medicine’ project launched at the District General Hospital in February, KBF has decided to put to use the therapeutic intervention of art on a different plane. The new initiative was expected to boost the sensory experience and the emotional and cognitive development of the students, the principal of Raksha School Elizabeth Philip stated in a release issued by KBF. Around 80 to 100 students will attend the event. The school authorities were eager to see how the children would respond to the musical treat, she added.
“The Arts and Medicine project is being expanded to different healthcare and wellness programmes that contribute to both mental and physical fitness,” said Bonny Thomas, KBF research coordinator. “The KBF will take the healing power of art to special schools, palliative care units, de-addiction centres and old-age homes in the coming days,” he added.
