A new case has been registered against Inspector General of Police Tomin J. Thachankary.
The court Erattupetta Police in Kottayam registered a new case, to probe into the allegation that the officer owned a granite quarry at Mankombu, Munnilavu using the cover name of another person and cause damage to property of neighbours.
Pareppurakkal Samuel of Munnilavu had lodged complaint with the court, alleging that his house was damaged due to quarrying activities in his neighbourhood. The quarry is registered in the name of Nalinakshan Nair of Mankombu Granites. He has been arraigned as first accused and M. Chandran, working as blaster at the quarry as second accused.
Mr. Thanchankary was made accused in the case after the complainant alleged that the real owner of the quarry was the police officer. On the basis of instructions from the court, Erattupetta police registered a case on Saturday.
When contacted, Mr. Thachankary said that he knew Mr. Nair, who was a former police officer from Aluva, but was not in regular touch with him and has never met the complainant Mr. Samuel.
The latter had filed a similar complaint with the police earlier and it was closed after investigation for the want of evidence, Mr. Thachakary said.
Mr. Thachankary was placed under suspension in connection with a probe by the National Investigation Agency regarding complaints of unauthorised foreign tours and was reinstated. He presently holds the post of managing director of Marketfed (Kerala State Cooperative Marketing Federation).
The officer failed to make it to the post graduate programme in MBA at the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, after the State Government’s permission was delayed due to the pending inquiries against him.
Two of his colleagues, C. Nagaraju and Harshita Attaluri, were allowed to proceed with the courses.
