Kochi Metro Rail Limited is gearing up to take up construction of the metro’s extension to the suburbs.

Kochi Metro Rail Limited is organising an architectural design competition for the upcoming ferry terminals of Water Metro at Vyttila and Fort Kochi.

This is in line with the objective to adopt more sustainable mass public transport options. The terminals will be completed in 2018.

The participants may present their designs either individually or as a team not exceeding four members. The competition is also open to architectural firms, architectural students and schools and colleges offering architecture or design studies. The registration for the competition will commence on August 20 and conclude on September 10. The designs should be prepared bearing in mind the environment the terminals will be located in and should also have the potential to transform the location into an iconic landmark.

The results of the competition will be published on October 10. The first prize winner will be given ₹50,000 whereas the runner-up will get ₹25,000. In addition, the name of the architect or the firm will be displayed on the respective ferry terminals.
