The Njarakkal police on Monday took one more person into custody in connection with the assault on a 26-year-old man and his family at a fuel station near Njarakkal at Vypeen.

The arrested has been identified as Vikas, 41, a resident of Nayarambalam.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team picked up Vikas from a hideout near Cherayi beach near here.

According to the police, Vikas was not directly involved in the assault though he had been with the accused, Sarun and Kannan, when the attack took place. Following interrogation, a case has been registered against Vikas for criminal conspiracy and attempt to murder and he will be produced before a magistrate on Tuesday.

The police had on Sunday arrested two persons on charges of harbouring those involved in the attack.

Sarun and Kannan, who are habitual offenders, are believed to have left the State.

The police have registered an attempt to murder case in the incident in which the trio attacked Nikhil Jose and his family, including a seven-month-old baby, at a fuel station at Kuzhuppilly last week.

The family was on their way to Vallarpadam when the gang allegedly attacked them after accusing them of driving the vehicle slowly.

Following the attack, Nikhil sustained deep injuries on his face and behind his shoulder.
