The Factories and Boilers Department has served notice on six factories in the district for violation of various rules and regulations.

Factories in the Kalamassery industrial area have been given 15 days’ time to rectify the violations, failing which action, including prosecution, would be initiated.

The region-specific squad inspection was led by Factories and Boilers Senior Joint Director S. Mani on an instruction by the State government.

Flouting norms

Among the violations detected were operation of factories without relevant licences, absence of adequate safety measures and rest room facilities for workers.

The central region covers the districts of Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad. Similar inspections would be undertaken in Thrissur next week followed by Palakkad.

The squad will return to Ernakulam next month since only one area in the Ernakulam region has been covered.

The squad included Factories and Boilers Department Ernakulam Inspector Nitheesh Devaraj; Kochi inspector Shibu V. Ramakrishnan; safety cell inspectors M.T. Regi and Lal Varghese; and Ernakulam Additional Factory Inspector Satheesh Chandran.
