Missing valuables: GCDA issues show-cause notice to official

December 30, 2016 07:11 pm | Updated 07:11 pm IST - KOCHI:

The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) on Friday issued a show-cause notice to an assistant engineer who was the custodian of the Chairman’s house from where valuables worth lakhs went missing.

GCDA secretary M.C. Joseph issued the notice with an ultimatum to give a ‘convincing and satisfying reply’ by the evening of January 3.

GCDA chairman C.N. Mohanan said if the reply was not forthcoming or found unsatisfactory, then the agency would file a case for theft.

The GCDA came to know about the missing household items, from furniture and air conditioners to even gas cylinders, after officials took the newly appointed chairman, C.N. Mohanan, to show him the place around soon after he assumed charge earlier this week.

The new chairman found to his utter shock that the house was far from uninhabitable with the missing furniture and even cots.

Mr. Mohanan said Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) officials visited the GCDA office at Kadavanthra on Thursday to collect information based on media reports. The VACB is likely to register a suo motu case on the issue.

Meanwhile, a few of the missing items reappeared mysteriously after the issue kicked up a storm. However, materials worth lakhs are still missing.
