League to approach UDF against Mayor

December 31, 2016 12:44 am | Updated 12:44 am IST - KOCHI:

The tiff between Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) councillors of the Kochi Corporation and Mayor Soumini Jain is snowballing into a major crisis with the League planning to take it up with the State leadership of the United Democratic Front (UDF).

League leaders will raise the issue in the State platform of the UDF as the party is a constituent of the front in the State and Kochi Corporation.

Though the district committee meeting of the party, which was held on Friday evening, expressed strong resentment against the Kochi Mayor and her style of functioning, the party stopped short of passing a resolution demanding her ouster.

“The meeting, however, has decided to take up the issue with the State leadership,” sources said.

On the issue of its councillor T.K. Ashraf locking horns with a trade union leader of the council, the meeting shared the sentiment that the Mayor had supported the trade union leader to act against the councillor, League sources said.

The party would legally and politically fight the case involving its councillor, it was decided.
