A procession with the participation of over 2,000 students, highlighting the theme of environment protection and liquor-free Kerala, will mark the start of this edition of Ernakulam district school arts festival at North Paravur near here on Tuesday.
The procession will begin at around 3 p.m. from St. Germain’s Zion Lower Primary School and conclude at the Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, the main venue of the festival. Tableaux and cultural troupes will present the theme of a plastic-free society and request the public to maintain their premises clean.
Even though the programmes will officially start with the procession followed by the inaugural session, the literary competitions in various categories will begin by 9 a.m. Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Chavittunatakam events will be held in the evening.
C.A. Santhosh, Deputy Director of Education, Ernakulam, said elaborate arrangements had been made for the successful conduct of the festival at 16 venues across North Paravur. IT@School will ensure transparency and speed in the publication of results by employing various ICT-based tools. A mobile app titled ‘ddeernakulam’ has been designed to update results from each venue. It could be downloaded from Playstore on Android-basd mobile phones free of cost, he said.
The point tally, both school and sub district wise, will be available on the mobile app. The festival results and other news will also be available on the websites www.ddeernakulam.in and www.kalolsavam2017.in . The website www.kalolsavam2017.in has been designed by Rohit Paul, a student of Mar Elias Higher Secondary School, Kottapady. He won the first prize in web designing competition (higher secondary category) at the Ernakulam revenue school IT mela.
Fifteen student IT co-ordinators will be active at the information technology centres at various venues from which the details related to the festivals will be uploaded. A Facebook page. www.facebook.com/kalolsavamekm, will also provide festival updates. The festival will conclude on January 6.
