An all-party meeting convened by District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla here on Tuesday to bring an end to recurring political clashes in and around Piravom vowed to maintain peace in the region.

The meeting, initiated by Anoop Jacob, MLA, urged political parties to act responsibly and abstain from pursuing violence.

The Collector urged the police to take necessary action against the culprits.

Additional District magistrate C.K. Prakash, Revenue Divisional Officer R. Ramachandran and Deputy Police Superintendent R. Bijumon also attended the meeting.

The region witnessed a series of clashes earlier this month after a six-member gang attacked Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist M.N. Vinod.

This was followed by another attack on Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) block secretary Ajesh Manoharan a few days later.

Later, another gang attacked the house of RSS activist Satish.

One arrested

The police have registered several cases and arrested one person in this connection.

Both the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bharatiya Janata Party had observed flash hartals in the region in protest against the attacks.
