84 held in special drive against goondas

Sixty-seven cases were registered and 84 persons arrested in a special drive against anti-social elements and goondas conducted within the limits of Kochi Range on a directive issued by Inspector General of Police P. Vijayan.

The drive led by the district police chiefs concerned was conducted in Kochi city, Ernakulam Rural, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Idukki districts. Sixteen long absconding criminals were nabbed and 1,029 accused were produced before courts.

Recommendations have also been made for initiating action against six persons under the Goonda Act and against 18 persons under Section 107 of the CrPC.
