Over 6,000 seats are available for science courses under the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) of the Mahatma Gandhi (MG) University for admission to undergraduate programmes in the new academic year.
As per the university guidelines, 100 per cent seats in government colleges will be filled through CAP. Seventy per cent of seats in aided colleges and 50 per cent in unaided colleges will also be available under the single window system. The community merit quota and management quota seats will be filled by the managements concerned.
The B.Sc. programme in maths has the maximum number of seats among the traditional science subjects. About 1,570 seats are available in various affiliated colleges for the course.
The intake capacity for B.Sc. Chemistry and B.Sc. Physics is almost similar. About 1,354 seats are on offer for the undergraduate programme in chemistry while the number of seats available for physics is 1,348.
The course-wise break-up of intake capacity for a few other courses: BCA – 545; B.A Politics – 180; B.Sc. Botany and Biotechnology – 30; B.Sc. Food Science and Quality Control – 45.
For aspirants wishing to join a B.Com programme, the affiliated colleges under the university have over 6,270 seats for admission under CAP. The intake capacity for B.A. English Language and Literature course is about 2,100. For B.A. Economics, the number of seats on offer is around 1,940. Under CAP, a student applying for multiple courses and colleges need to submit just one application.
The admission process can be tracked online. Marks at the Plus Two level will decide the weightage for the admissions to the degree programmes.
CAP was introduced for undergraduate programmes in MG University in the academic year 2011-12. The objective of the initiative is to ensure a fair and transparent admission process. The system eliminates the fear of manipulation at all levels.
