Bolivian film Pacha directed by Héctor Ferreiro, which was widely acclaimed at the Berlin Film Festival, will be the inaugural film at the Kochi International Film Festival set to get underway here on Sunday.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the fest at the Saritha Theatre complex at 7 p.m.
The fest is being organised jointly by the district administration, Kochi Corporation, Cochin Film Society, Metro Film Society, District Tourism Promotion Council, and Information and Public Relations Department. Films will be screened at Saritha, Savitha, Sangeetha and Sridhar theatres, Durbar Hall Ground, and the Children’s Theatre.
Five films from Thailand, eight from Poland, and six from Iran will be part of the package of 50 foreign language films to be screened at the fest.
Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage’s ‘With You Without You’, Filipino director Brillante Mendoza’s ‘Daewoos’, Korean director Jeon Kyu-hwan's film ‘The Weight’, Israeli filmmaker Dan Wolman’s ‘Ben’s Biography’, ‘Tied Hands’ and ‘Valley of Strength’ will also be screened.
The separate category of Malayalam films will feature 18 films. The Indian category also includes three Hindi films and one film in Tulu language. Nitin Kakkar’s movie ‘Filmistan’, which received much attention in the Indian International Film Fest at Thiruvananthapuram, will be screened here as well.
