The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Saturday foiled an attempt to smuggle gold through the Cochin International Airport and seized about 4 kg of gold worth Rs.1.2 crore, hidden inside the toilet of a flight from Dubai.

According to officials, the smuggling was unearthed following the detention of Raheem, a native of Tamil Nadu, who had landed here from Dubai.

The step followed a specific intelligence input the DRI got about the smuggling. “After boarding the flight from Dubai, Raheem planted the consignment in the toilet. On its next leg, the flight was to leave for Bengaluru and another person had been entrusted to board this domestic flight to deliver the gold,” they said.
