KOCHI: The Motor Vehicles Department booked 318 private buses in a drive held across three districts on Saturday in the wake of complaints received by the Transport Commissioner about their operations.

More than a hundred MVD officials participated in the drive held in Ernakulam, Idukki and Kottayam districts. Twenty-seven buses were booked for trip curtailment, 18 for not reserving seats for various categories, 54 for using air horns, 60 for illegally mounting music systems, 65 for not printing the registration number on tickets and 83 buses for not maintaining complaint books.

Six conductors were booked for misbehaviour with passengers while another 178 employees were charged for not wearing uniforms and nameplates and not holding licences.

Deputy Transport Commissioner K.G. Samuel warned of more frequent drives in the coming days and strict action, including cancellation of the permit, against those found guilty.
