August 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:50 am IST - KOCHI:

A day after the police confirmed terror links behind the operation in which persons posing as Vigilance sleuths looted cash and gold from a businessman’s house at Perumbavoor, the investigators identified 36-year-old Ajims as the mastermind behind the operation.

The police have confirmed the presence of a 14-member gang behind the operation, purportedly for financing terror-related activities in Kerala. Though all the persons involved in the operation are either in police custody or under their radar, officers are delaying their arrest to collect maximum information.

Meanwhile, officials with Kochi unit of National Investigation Agency (NIA) interrogated Abdul Halim of Kannur, another key accused in the case, on Monday and Tuesday. NIA has prepared a preliminary report on the case.

Remanded

Meanwhile, the police on Tuesday produced Ajims, Rahees, 20, and Sanoob, 26, before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Perumbavoor, on Tuesday. They were remanded in police custody till August 29. Rahees and Sanoob are the 13th and 14th accused in the case.

The three have been booked for dacoity while a separate case has been registered against Ajims under the Arms Act on recovery of a pistol, country-made sword and dagger.
