13 hurt as dogs go on biting spree

Incident happens at General Hospital compound

At least 13 persons sustained injuries after stray dogs bit them at the Ernakulam Government General Hospital compound on Tuesday.

Those bitten by strays included seven bystanders and two employees of the hospital.

The dogs also attacked a head nurse and a woman patient though they did not sustain injuries.

The hospital authorities said four stray dogs in the compound had turned violent and attacked those on the premises.

Two dogs caught

On an alert, Kochi Corporation workers caught two strays, while two other dogs fled. The injured were given treatment at the hospital.

The dogs turned violent and attacked Ajotha, a house keeping employee at the hospital, first. She was bitten in her abdomen. Subsequently, the dogs attacked 14 more persons, of whom seven sustained severe injuries.
