Water supply to the panchayats of Kadungalloor, Karumaloor and Alangad as well as to Kadamakkudy and Varappuzha are expected to improve with the dedication of a 11-kV feeder for Kerala Water Authority’s treatment plant at Muppathadam. The new feeder line, established at a cost ₹2.35 crore, was dedicated by V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, MLA.
The MLA’s area development fund was used to build the new feeder line. It would ensure that electricity disruption was reduced considerably as only a fault on the new line would result in power disruption, said KWA sources.
Output from the treatment plant would sometimes be reduced to about half because of electricity supply disruption. It took about 1.5 hours for pumping to achieve normality after a disruption, said sources. Sometimes, water supply lines too got damaged if pumping was disrupted frequently.
KWA has three plants at Muppathadam. Two of them, with a combined capacity of 14.5 million litres per day, caters to areas under Kadungalloor, Karumaloor and Alangad. The third plant, with a capacity of 4.5 million litres per day, caters to Varappuzha and Kadamakkudy areas.
Mr. Ebrahim Kunju also officially declared Kalamassery Assembly constituency as fully electrified. The whole of the State was declared fully electrified in May this year by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Kalamassery Assembly constituency achieved the feat after providing 416 electricity connections at a total cost of ₹35 lakh. Of the amount, ₹16 lakh was provided from the MLA’s fund.
The rest of the money came from the Electricity Board, said KSEB sources.
