Nissan, PlayStation to organise driver-discovery programme. The qualifying round of the competition has been held in Mumbai and Delhi in which over 2,000 people participated.
Want to drive a specially tuned Nissan 370Z or GT-R at full throttle at the famous Silverstone International Racing circuit in UK? Do you wish to get professional training to compete in international races without paying a penny?
Well, then head to the Inorbit mall in Madhapur where Nissan along with PlayStation is organising the GT Academy. This driver-discovery programme was launched on Thursday wherein interested participants can put to test their driving skills by playing the Grand Turismo 6 game on a live racing simulator. Those who finish the race by clocking the quickest lap timing will reach the national finals.
The qualifying round of the competition has been held in Mumbai and Delhi in which over 2,000 people participated. The quickest lap recorded was 1:59:357 by a Mumbai participant.
Kenichiro Yomura, president, Nissan India operations, said that launching the GT Academy in India reinforces their commitment to developing relationships with existing and potential customers. At a later stage, an online qualifying round will be held in which 14 finalists will be chosen along with 14 top participants from the live events. These 28 contestants from across the country will undergo a two-day physical and mental training examination out of which six best candidates will be filtered. These six candidates from India will then head to an international race camp in Silverstone to compete with 18 contestants from other countries. One winner will be chosen based on their driving skills as well as mental and physical endurance levels. The winner will be eligible for the driver development programme and will learn the skills necessary to compete in an international ‘graduation race’. In Hyderabad, the event will end on April 20 at 8: 30 p.m. Those interested in participating can pre-register on www.nissan.in or www.facebook.com /nissanindia or can spot register at the Atrium, Inorbit mall by furnishing their driver’s license.
