A meeting of the advisory council of Nehru Zoological Park has decided to check the pollution levels in the water flowing from the adjacent Miralam tank to the zoo, as it could seriously affect the health of the animals.
Setting up a water treatment plant and checking the entry of water into the zoo with the help of GHMC and the water board were cleared by the council recently, a release said.
The meeting also decided to seek feedback and rating of facilities and enclosures of animals from the visitors to the zoo on a mobile app. It noted that the arrangements at the zoo had already earned appreciation nationwide and decided to step up and modernise them not only for animals, but the visitors.
A zoo educational programme, animal talk show and modernisation of signboards would be taken up with the involvement of the environmentalists and NGOs. The Chief Wildlife Warden, Manoranjan Bhanja, MD of Tourism Development Corporation Christina Chongtu, zoo curator Shivani Dogra and senior scientist of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology Karthikeyan Vasudevan were present.
