Yuvraj Singh has become synonymous in sport for his remarkable battle against cancer. And, for someone who is immensely popular even before he faced this ordeal (remember he was the star performer in India’s victorious campaign in the 2011 World Cup), this great fight-back from the brink of adversity has made him even more popular. “I thank all those people who prayed for my well-being,” he says.
In Hyderabad to play for North Zone in the Duleep Trophy semi-final, Yuvraj says that he is delighted that his dream of making it to the Test team again begins with his first four-day game after being treated for cancer in the city. “I love this place. I love Hyderabad and the people who always supported me in a big way,” were his spontaneous comments.
“Mind you, this is the city from where the great V.V.S. Laxman hails. I would love to meet him and also Sania and Saina. Unfortunately, the two champion women athletes are out of station to take part in tournaments,” remarked a visibly relaxed Yuvraj. “But, I will meet my good friend Laxman during my stay here,” he added.
“In fact, when I was told that the Duleep Trophy match is being played in Hyderabad, I was delighted for I could not have asked for a better venue than this city, of which, I have always had fond memories,” the dashing all-rounder observed.
By all means, Yuvraj Singh is in the comfort zone as far as going through the rigorous training at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium for the four-day match is concerned.
