A YSRCP legislator was detained at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport by the police in the wee hours of Friday, for carrying four live rounds in his baggage.

The Central Industrial Security Force personnel at the airport detected four rounds in Adoni MLA Y. Sai Prasad Reddy’s baggage during the security check for his flight to Thailand, with another legislator Gummanur Jayaram of Alur constituency.

Mr. Reddy was immediately detained and handed over to the RGIA police for further investigation. No case was registered as Mr. Reddy was carrying the bullets of his licensed weapon. He was set free after he tendered an explanation, said Ch. Dhanunjaya, sub-inspector, RGIA. However, Mr. Reddy told The Hindu that he was going to Hong Kong and Bali on a trip with his friends and forgot to remove the bullets from his bag.

“I had deposited the firearm during MLC elections last year and forgot to remove the bullets from the luggage bag,” he said, adding that his next flight was to scheduled to take off at 1.30 a.m on Saturday.
