The YSR Congress Party is all set to become a recognised State-level party in the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh owing to its performance in the recent general elections. The party has already requested the Election Commission to give the recognition formally at the earliest.
The party has received 44.4 per cent of the total valid votes polled in Seemandhra region in the recent Assembly elections. It has secured 67 Assembly seats by getting 1,28,40,033 votes, in all.
Mere 75,967 vote difference relegated the party to the second position in Seemandhra. However, it made a huge difference in terms of number of seats, as the TDP could get 102 seats with 44.6 per cent vote share.
A delegation of party leaders including the MP-elects will visit New Delhi soon to pursue the matter.
“We have urged the EC authorities to complete the formalities at the earliest so that the party can issue whip to its MPTC/ZPTC members and municipal councillors/corporators during the election to mandal parishad, zilla parishad, municipal chairpersons and mayors,” party sources said.
The recognised party status would also hinder the reported plans of TDP to poach into YSR Congress strength in Seemandhra Assembly as the legislators would come under the Anti-Defection Law. According to the provisions of Representation of People’s Act, conditions for recognition as a State party include securing not less than 6 per cent of the total valid votes polled in that State and getting at least two members elected to the Assembly.
In Telangana, the party is falling short of fulfilling any of the conditions as it could get only 3.4 per cent vote share (6,53,100 votes) and could win three Assembly seats.
