A 22-year-old student was killed while his friend escaped unhurt as an SUV they were travelling in hit an electric pole and overturned on old Mumbai Highway in Raidurgam late on Friday.

Police suspect the SUV driver, identified as Kandakatala Rahul Reddy, lost control of the vehicle and rammed a pole near Sri Venkateshwara Swamy temple on the highway. The other occupant in the car was identified as Sai Charan. Veera Babu, sub-inspector of Raidurgam police station, said the accident took place around 3.15 a.m., when Rahul was on his way to drop Sai Charan after meeting friends in Jubilee Hills. Rahul, son of Anantha Reddy, a resident of Shankerpally, was pursuing his masters in the US and had come to the city two months ago on vacation.
