According to the police, the girl, studying in class III, is related to the accused
The city police on Tuesday nabbed a youngster for allegedly trying to rape a nine-year-old girl near his house at Kondareddyguda in Kishanbagh.
The arrested person S. Arun Kumar (19), an employee at a water purifier plant, lured the girl to a nearby vacant room and tried to violate her. When she raised an alarm, neighbours rushed to her rescue and caught Kumar and thrashed him before handing him over to the Bahadurpura police. The police registered a case against Kumar and took him into custody. Bahadurpura Inspector M. Tirupathanna said the girl, who is a third standard student, was Kumar’s relative.
In a separate incident, volunteers of a non-governmental organisation rescued an 11-year-old girl from two miscreants, who tried to molest her at Shamshabad railway station, on Monday night. Unable to bear the torture of her stepmother, the girl had run away from home at Lalapet and came to Shamshabad railway station in a train on Monday.
On noticing her alone, the two youngsters accosted her and took her to a nearby isolated place. She, however, gave them a slip and came out of the railway station and was weeping when the volunteers saw her. After consoling her, they took her to their house. On Tuesday, they handed over the girl to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police to trace her family members.
“The girl told us that she ran away from home due to her stepmother’s harassment,” RGIA Inspector D. Durga Prasad.
