Youth arrested for harassing woman, attempting suicide

A youngster from Mumbai, who allegedly befriended a woman in Hyderabad through Facebook and started harassing her after she turned down his marriage proposal, was arrested by the Vanasthalipuram police on Saturday.

Pranav, 21, a student, came in contact online with the woman, an engineering student residing in a hostel at Vanasthalipuram, a few months ago. According to police, the woman rejected his marriage proposal. Since then, he was allegedly pestering her to marry him. On Friday, he came to Hyderabad and went to her hostel and attempted suicide by consuming poison.

The locals shifted him to hospital. Based on a complaint lodged by the woman, police registered a criminal case and arrested him on Saturday.

Job consultant held

Police on Saturday arrested a manpower consultant Varanasi Chandrashekhar for having allegedly duped 19 jobless persons to the tune of Rs. 29.7 lakh with false assurances of providing them employment abroad.

The accused used to run an office at Ameerpet and collect resumes from the candidates approaching him for jobs.

He would convince them that jobs were available overseas and collect money ranging from Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 3.5 lakh.

He got online interviews conducted for them through his NRI friend Dheeru in London and collected money from them.
