Instances of infertility among young software professionals in the city seems to be on the rise given the job related stress, lifestyle changes and irregular work hours.
“Out of an average of 10 people that I treat everyday, majority of them are software engineers,” said Neveenchandra Acharya, andrologist at Ramayya Pramila Urology Hospital, on Friday. Most of them come from Hitech city and Gachibowli areas, he pointed out.
Problems related to infertility and impotency can be easily cured if the reasons are identified early. While male impotency can be related to erectile dysfunction, one has to be careful while ascertaining the reasons for infertility, he said.
Impotency should be taken as warning sign for impending health disasters, he said. “A major reason for erectile dysfunction is lack of proper blood flow to the male organ. If the underlying reason is left untreated it can result in heart attacks or brain strokes,” Dr. Acharya warned.
He also advised that couples should seek medical advice if they fail to conceive as early as possible. “Also couples usually approach a gynaecologist to treat infertility which implies that the woman is held responsible. Infertility can be because of many factors and a thorough medical counselling is required to address the problem,” he explained.
This is because, even when both the partners are healthy, they may fail to conceive because of psychosexual disorders, Female Sexologist Sharmila Majumdar said.
To provide a complete gamut of services under one roof, Dr. Acharya, Dr. Majumdar and gynaecologist Runa Kamat Acharya are starting an Infertility and Sexual Disorder Clinic at Ramayya Pramila Urology Hospital, Basheerbagh from February 1.
