Their nimble hands gave shape to some fascinating paintings, which reflected not just their creative skills but also some thought-provoking ideas on issues concerning society, environment and family.

The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2014, organised at Gitanjali Devashray School, Secunderabad, on Sunday had students creating art work loaded with a lot of care. Among the 1,800 entries received from across the State, 400 paintings were selected for the final round in the junior (classes 4 to 6) and senior (classes 7 to 10) categories.

The topics for the final round in the junior category were: vegetable market, bird watching, shopping with family, heritage walk and sports day; and for the senior category: puppet show, fishing trip, potters’ village, trip to the village, traffic jam, picnic with my favourite book and when books came alive.

The best paintings were selected by renowned artists Poosapati Parameshwar Raju and Koeli Mukherjee. In the junior category, Parashar Vemuri, a Standard V student of Bhavan’s Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya, bagged the first prize; Dev Rani, Standard IV student of Chitram School of Drawing and Painting, stood second, and G. Ashwitha, Standard VI student of Rishi High School, won the third prize.

A.V. Aniketh, P.C. Arpita, N. Prabhath, Ritisha, A. Esha Royal, Arpita Pattnaik and K. Niveditha won consolation prizes.

In the senior category, D. Sai Praveen Chand, Standard VII student of Vikas-the Concept School, bagged the first prize, while R.G. Akshay, Standard IX student of Sharan Basueswar Residential Public School, Gulbarga, and Bhatta Lasya Nayani, Standard IX student of Vikas-the Concept School, secured the second and third prizes respectively.

Shaik Sameena Beebi, M. Divya, V.V.N.S.D. Prathyusha, Anuthula Swathi, Sonia Dhara, Srividya Ghanta and A. Sai Namrata won consolation prizes. The event was sponsored by Miot Hospitals, while the other associate sponsors were Life Insurance Corporation of India, Union Bank of India, Aindriyaa Art and School Supplies Pvt Ltd, Lots Chocolates, Lotus Pai Milk products, Spencers Bread. Hazzel Ice Cream Café and Britannia India Ltd.
