Justice R. Subhash Reddy of A.P. High Court on Wednesday adjourned the writ petition pertaining to tenders of Polavaram Project, to next Tuesday for comprehensive hearing. The Judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by C.G.G.C Soma Joint Venture complaining that the process of finalising the tenders was flawed.
Several other contenders filed implead petitions. The government informed that the comprehensive hearing could take place on Tuesday.
Notices ordered
Justice L. Narasimha Reddy of A.P. High Court, on Wednesday ordered notices in a writ petition filed, seeking the constitution of SC & ST Commission in the State.
The Judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by P. Lakshman, who complained that the Commission had not been constituted since 2009 and there was no authority to consider the issues of SCs and STs. The Judge directed the government to file a counter affidavit within three weeks.
ASP directed to file affidavit
A Division Bench of A.P. High Court comprising Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Durga Prasad on Wednesday directed the Additional Superintendent of Police, Bhadrachalam, Khammam district to file an affidavit clarifying the circumstances which led to the detention of Madkam Nanda and four other tribals.
It may be recalled that the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC) filed the Writ of Habeas Corpus seeking production of the five tribals.
They alleged that following the tribals’ release from Warangal Jail, they were whisked away by the police from Khammam district and tortured in Charla.
The government informed the court that they were wanted in a case and produced before the Magistrate on December 4.
The petitioners said the case was filed before the High Court on December 3 and the authorities had not explained how they could detain these tribals from November 29 to December 4.
