World-class JNTUH college getting ready

Material science and nano technology with mechanical engg., and civil engg. with environmental engineering a first in AP & Telangana.

Surrounded by lush green fields, the campus of JNTUH College of Engineering, Sultanpur, a branch of JNTU Hyderabad, is fast getting ready.

The sprawling campus, spread over 154 acres, adjacent to Nanded-Akola road in Pulkal mandal, came up with a proposed budget of Rs. 300 crore. Established at Tara Degree College in Sangareddy in the year 2012, the first year activities commenced from that premises but second year onwards, the new campus was operational.

In the first phase, in addition to acquiring land and paying compensation, 10 academic buildings, boys’ and girls’ hostels, principal’s quarter and canteen will come up at an estimated cost of Rs. 84 crore and it is expected to get completed by June 2015.

A separate pipe line is being laid from Singoor project to meet the future requirements of the campus, for which the college has paid Rs. 7 crore for the concerned department.

A swimming pool is also planned in the campus and the compound wall of the campus is expected to be about 3.5 km in length. A 20-feet wide road will be laid along the side of the compound wall that can be used by the villagers.

Currently, the college has a strength of 480 students that is expected to reach 720 by the end of August once admissions are completed.

The college has been offering B. Tech -Mechanical Engineering (material science and nano- technology), B. Tech- Civil Engineering (Environment Engineering), B. Tech ECE and CSE. The college is expected to accommodate five per cent of its seats for foreign students from the next academic year.

“Material science and nano technology courses with mechanical engineering, and civil engineering with environmental engineering was introduced for the first time in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This gives a better understanding of new materials and green building technology for students,” said college principal M. Manjoor Hussain.

Once complete construction work is done, the college is expected to accommodate 1,200 students. The ongoing construction of the boys’ hostel will provide accommodation for 1,000 members followed by a girls’ hostel with a capacity of 800 students.
