The three-day workshop on ‘Understanding Islamic Law’ organised by Tafheem-e-Shariat Committee of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, was inaugurated by committee convenor Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani on Tuesday. On the concept of permanent alimony to the divorcee, Moulana Khalid said it was illogical, as the divorcee was permitted to go for a second marriage. Moreover, if men were forced to provide permanent alimony to their divorced wife, then they may neither divorce nor take care of them. Consequently, “hanged” women would be more than divorcees. Justice Shah Mohammed Quadri said the consequences of diverting people from Islamic laws would be very dangerous in terms of moral values.
