A 35-year-old woman J. Sandhya, who caught fire while pretending to immolate herself at Asifnagar, succumbed to her burns on Friday.
The victim’s son Maruti, 18, and daughter, Bhavani, 14, were reportedly pestering her with their mischief three days ago when she threatened to kill herself “unable to bear their behaviour”, police said. As they ignored her, the woman sprinkled kerosene on herself and lighted a match stick in a bid to scare them. As Sandhya brought the lighted matchstick too close to her, she caught fire and suffered critical burns. She was admitted to OGH, where she died while undergoing treatment on Friday.
