Police believe the techie got his wife eliminated through his friend and tried to cover up his complicity
Investigators on Saturday reportedly stumbled upon evidence suggesting that software professional Ameer Mohammed Jamal, whose wife Shaheen Shi Goftha was found murdered in their flat at Anandnagar colony, masterminded the killing.
Punjagutta police also detained Jamal’s friend Sunny from West Marredpally for interrogation in the sensational murder case. Police believe the techie got his wife eliminated through his friend and tried to cover up his complicity.
“The sniffer dog yesterday repeatedly went from the crime scene — the bedroom of the techie’s flat — to the building’s parking lot, giving leads that someone in the vicinity of the building was behind the killing,” police said on Saturday.
Jamal not alerting the police immediately after learning about his wife’s murder also pointed the needle of suspicion at him.
However, he tried to convince the police that he tried to shift his wife to a hospital and called in an ambulance.
“This caused the delay in conveying the information about the murder to you,” he told police.
While an analysis of Jamal’s call records suggested that he was at his office at Raheja IT park when his wife was murdered, the frequent calls he had made to his friend Sunny gave police the crucial lead.
During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to have given one of the keys of the flat’s main door to Sunny.
Police suspect that Sunny had entered the flat using the key.
“We’re verifying if Sunny executed the murder plot alone or took the help of others. What prompted Jamal to get his wife killed is also yet to be ascertained,” the police said.
