June 25, 2013 11:46 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 05:06 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Distraught over marital problems, a 28-year-old-woman of Golconda committed suicide, while her two children are battling for their lives.

K. Padmavati, who poured kerosene on her children — K. Ambika (10) and K. Siddharth (8) — and set them on fire on Sunday night, later torched herself.

She died on the spot, while the children are undergoing treatment at a hospital. Doctors said their condition is critical.

Police said marital problems could have forced Padmavati to take the drastic step.

Padmavati had been living alone after her husband deserted her four years ago.

Succumbs to burns

A girl, N. Barkha (16), who suffered burns accidentally while cooking at her house in Patelnagar near Gandhi Bhavan, succumbed on Monday. The victim used to earn her livelihood by doing petty business, police said.

Man dies of burns

Mohd. Arif (32), who suffered burns while trying to save his wife Sajida (25), died while undergoing treatment at OGH on Sunday. Arif tried to save Sajida, who set herself on fire following a tiff over a trivial issue on Thursday last. Sajida died on Saturday.

The couple have four children, including three daughters, the police said.
