A 40-year-old woman who tried to kidnap a four-year-old boy near Puranapool was caught by the boy’s parents and the police after a chase on Thursday.
According to the Hussainialam police, Kusumalatha alias Munni, a resident of Ujjaini in Madhya Pradesh, had seen the boy, D. Ayush, playing alone in front of his house at Shiv Nagar near Puranapool around 7 a.m. on Thursday.
Observing the surroundings, she picked him up, covered him with a small blanket, and started running towards the Puranapool bridge.
“Noticing the same, the boy’s parents began chasing her,” said Charminar Division ACP K. Ashok Chakravarthy.
A patrolling vehicle, which saw the parents chasing the woman, joined them and nabbed Munni and rescued the boy, he said.
A case of trying to kidnap their minor son for sale was filed against her at Hussainialam police station by the parents of the kidnapped boy.
“Interrogation of the woman revealed that she is a divorcee and had reached the city by train on Thursday morning. She kidnapped the boy with a plan to sell him in Madhya Pradesh,” Mr Chakravarthy said.
Investigation was in progress to find out whether she was a member of any gang who operated child lifting, the ACP said, adding that the information and photographs of the offender were flashed to all police stations.
