A 52-year-old woman teacher, identified as Zulekha Begum, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the new town area in the heart of the district headquarter town on Tuesday.

The body was swollen and decomposed. According to police, the Urdu teacher, working at the old Palamur school, was last seen by her neighbours on Saturday. When a foul smell started coming from the house, the neighbours alerted the police.

Living alone

They found the body when the doors were broken open. The police shifted the body to the headquarters hospital for post-mortem. Enquiries revealed that Zulekha was living alone as she was divorced and her sons were working in Hyderabad and elsewhere.

Autopsy report awaited

Two Town Police Inspector Durgaiah said the cause of the death could be established only after receiving post-mortem report. A case of death under suspicious circumstances was registered after the Deputy Superintendent of Police B. Mallikarjun visited the scene of offence.

A CLUES team was also pressed into service.
