A 53-year-old woman was crushed to death under the wheels of an APSRTC bus after she was flung through its window when the driver applied sudden brakes at Nacharam on Wednesday.

The victim identified as Laxmi Devi boarded the Metro bus at the ESI hospital.

The bus driver slammed the brakes suddenly when he reached Vyjayanthi film theatre at Nacharam.

No railings

The woman standing close to the front door got tossed out of the window and came under the wheels after falling on the road, Nacharam Inspector S. Ashok Kumar said. Death was instant for her.

“We were told that the windows did not have steel railings,” the Inspector said. A case of rash and negligent act resulting in death was registered against the bus driver.

Action would be initiated against the APSRTC officials concerned if their negligence leading to the woman’s death was found, he said.

Two Sudanese held

Two Sudan nationals, who were possessing 20 counterfeit American dollars, were arrested by the Commissioner’s Task Force (West) officials on Wednesday.

One of the accused, Badreldin (24), a cloth seller, brought along with him the fake currency notes while flying to India recently.

Five days ago, he met his friend Hamam Mustafa Abdel Rahim Ibrahim (20), a student living in Masab Tank.

Both were caught by the sleuths while they were allegedly trying to exchange the fake currency notes.

The two used to break into locked flats during the night and take away the valuables, Asifnagar ACP G.P. Vinod Kumar said.
