Accused was upset with her contractor-husband for his extramarital affair with a woman labourer, say police
A civil contractor, who reportedly was having an extramarital relationship with a labourer, was allegedly murdered by his wife in their house at Banjara Hills on Friday.
Laxmi (46) clubbed her husband Venkatesh (56) to death with a hammer after offering him coffee laced with sleeping pills on Thursday night, Banjara Hills Inspector P. Murali Krishna said. The couple have three sons.
“Laxmi said she nursed a grudge against her husband as he continued his relationship with the labourer of the nearby Ibrahimnagar slum,” the Inspector said.
Seeks nephew’s help
Initially, she sought the help of her elder brother’s son Pradeep to ensure that either her husband snapped ties with the woman or he was eliminated.
Pradeep allegedly collected Rs. 16 lakh from Laxmi assuring her of eliminating the contractor without anyone suspecting her involvement. Pradeep, however, could not execute the murder plan and returned part of the money to Laxmi, the police said.
He called her up a few days ago and sought more money and threatened to reveal the murder plan to Venkatesh, if she failed to part with the extra money.
“Worried about her husband coming to know about the murder plan, Laxmi murdered him,” the Inspector said.
Manohar, the eldest son of the couple, looks after the construction work of his father; the second son is pursuing his master’s degree in Canada; the third is working as software professional in the US.
The couple lived with their eldest son at Gowrishankar Colony on Road No. 10, Banjara Hills.
