Dejected over strained relationship with her husband who began living separately, a 23-year-old woman burnt her two daughters to death before immolating herself in Jawaharnagar of Alwal on Thursday.

The woman identified as Sharada is battling for life in Gandhi hospital with 90 per cent burns. While her eight-month-old daughter Sravani died immediately, the elder child, Meenakshi (2), succumbed to burns while undergoing treatment.

Sharada’s husband, Mallesh, working as labourer in a scrap shop at Musheerabad, was living separately. Hailing from Lingampally of Bachannapet in Warangal district, Mallesh had married Sharada of Jawaharnagar five years ago. They had lived together in different parts of Hyderabad city for some time. But later, she shifted to the house of her parents in Ambedkarnagar. Sharada’s parents alleged that Mallesh started harassing their daughter after getting addicted to liquor.

“A little before 3 p.m., the woman rang up her husband and spoke to him for about 10 minutes requesting him to come home,” said Alwal Inspector B. Pushpan Kumar. Sharada’s family members are not sure what transpired between her and Mallesh. Even as her parents and two brothers were watching the TV inside, she sprinkled kerosene on her and the children and set them ablaze. By the time they rushed out, all the three were engulfed in flames.
