A woman accused of cheating attempted suicide on Friday evening. D. Malavika of Banjara Hills introduced herself as Dr. Geetanjali Vaidevi, an NRI from New Jersey, and befriended one Prashanth, an NRI staying in the United States.

“Malavika and Prashanth chatted over internet and over a period of time the woman took Rs. 11 lakh from him. She told him that she was single and was facing financial problems. Prashanth came to the city recently and wanted to meet her but the woman switched off her phone and avoided him,” a CCS official said.

Case registered

Based on a complaint lodged by Prashanth, a case was registered against Malavika at the Cyber Crime police station in November last.

“On Friday evening, the woman came to the Cyber Crime police station after consuming poison and fell unconscious. She was rushed to Osmania General Hospital and later to a private hospital,” the official added.

Three more cheated

The police said that Malavika cheated three more persons in a similar way.
