Eamcet officials have declared that the web counselling process will not see any change even as efforts are on to finalise the dates for engineering counselling this year.
Web counselling helps one choose a good institution and the right course and obviously, there is intense competition for such seats. So much so that even a minor mistake can dash the hopes of candidates, even those who get decent ranks. The big advantage of such counselling is candidates have ample time to select the college and course of their choice. Options can also be changed several times before the final date.
After the final date, all the options are frozen by the computer and the software allots seats based on the preferences given by the students taking into account all the parameters like local/non-local reservations, caste reservations, gender reservation and other permutations and combinations involved in the allotment process. The first stage of the web counselling will be verification of certificates at the helpline centres. Details of certificate verification centres, generation of password and other admission-related information will be released by the Technical Education Department while issuing the admission notification. The notification is likely to be issued before June 20.
Certificate verification
For certificate verification, students need to carry the rank card, hall-ticket, marks memo, study certificates from 6 class for determining the local/non-local eligibility, and the original caste and income certificates if they wish to claim seats under reservation category or fee waiver under the fee reimbursement scheme. One can choose to attend any helpline centre where officials will also explain the process of generating the password for exercising the web options.
Exercising options means giving preferences to the colleges and courses the students wish to join and arrange them in the order of priority. For example, if students wish to join Computer Science Engineering in JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad, under option number they have to write 1, under College code JNTUH and CSE under course.
If it’s Mechanical in the same college they have to choose it as the second option and give all the details like college code and course code once again. If they want CSE in Osmania University they can write the same in the third option field. Similarly, any number of options can be given with the combination of courses and colleges. They can choose the same course in all the colleges, or all the courses in the same college, or a combination of different courses in different colleges.
The computer will look at the first option first and allot the seat if it is vacant. If it is filled then it will check the second option, and similarly it will continue to check till a vacant seat is available for that rank matching the combination of course and college chosen by the candidate.
Unlimited options
However, officials advise students to do a study of previous allocations to find out which colleges and courses were available last year for the same rank. It will be more or less the same this year too. But one should always give options in the best colleges and courses first and then move onto other colleges. One can give more than 3,000 options and students should not limit it to a few.
Students must note that they should not reveal their passwords to anyone. Several private agents are on prowl in the districts trying to lure students with promises of free transport or hostel facility. If students fall in their trap they will not get the seats of their choice as these agents will fill their choice of colleges first in the web counselling.
