The mystery behind the killing of a crockery trader in Shalibanda was solved with the arrest of four persons on Wednesday. The body of Mohd. Ismail Khan with strangulation marks was fished out of Gurram Cheruvu under Chandrayangutta police station limits on Friday last.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Falaknuma ACP Mohd. Taher Ali said the prime accused, Shaik Salman (20), an RTA agent, allegedly had an illicit relationship with Mahmooda Begum (38), wife of the deceased, for the last three years. Ismail got a wind of the matter and warned Salman not to visit his house.

He also quarrelled frequently with his wife over the issue. “It was then they decided to kill Ismail,” the ACP said.

Begum tipped Salman on Ismail going to Pahadisharif Dargah on May 3.. Salman along with his two friends -- Md. Nisar (21), an auto driver, and Syed Javeed (20), a jewellery shop worker -- kidnapped Ismail and bundled him into a car.

Strangled to death

They took him to an isolated place in Nabeel Colony and strangled him to death using seat belts. Later, they dumped the body in the lake and abandoned the car near Pahadisharif.

Based on the mobile call data records of Begum and Salman, police questioned the latter, who confessed to his crime. Four cell phones and the car were recovered.
