Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP from Nizamabad, K. Kavitha, has alleged that Congress and TDP had joined hands for the by-election to Palair in Khammam district, keeping aside their diagonally opposite ideologies and political rivalry for over three decades.
She sought to know why the TDP was not contesting the by-election when it had faced by-poll to Narayankhed assembly constituency a couple of months back.
“It’s due to their tacit understanding to oppose TRS in Palair, the TDP has decided against contesting the election though there is no change in the situation compared to what it was during Narayankhed by-poll,” Ms. Kavitha said addressing a press conference here on Tuesday.
She also faulted the Congress for flaying the ruling party’s decision to contest by-election to Palair caused by the death of sitting Congress legislator Ramreddy Venkata Reddy stating that it had no moral right to do so since the party had contested against the mother of Srikantha Chary, the first martyr in the movement for statehood to Telangana after 2009, in spite of TRS’ plea in 2014 elections. Further, the Congress had tried to contact TRS after announcing its candidate, she noted.
Although the TRS had all sympathies for the family members of the deceased Congress legislator, it was the party policy of TRS to contest by-election, irrespective of the cause behind it.
On the “identical twins” CPI and CPI (M), she said people would be always in the dark when they would cross swords and when they join forces.
She pointed out that the CPI had supported Congress in the recent election to Khammam Municipal Corporation against CPI (M) and other parties and now it had taken a decision to support CPI (M) by ditching Congress.

Congress MP
She hoped that people would teach a fitting lesson to Congress once again as its MP had written to HUDCO against sanctioning loan to drinking water project aimed at providing piped water to every household in the State.
The TRS leader alleged that Congress party moved the Election Commission against TRS’ plenary at Khammam out of fear of losing the Palair by-election and said there was no link to the two since the decision on holding plenary was taken long back.
