What’s in store for officials?

The officers of All India Services are waiting with bated breath for guidelines from the Central government on their distribution between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the wake of bifurcation. The sanctioned IAS cadre strength is 376, IPS 258 and IFS 149. However, only 290 IAS, 207 IPS and 126 IFS officers are in position. The insider-outsider ratio is 55:45. Most of the officers feel that the distribution is being taken up in the advanced stage of their career which will have an adverse impact. They are averse to being given an option to choose between the two States as they are supposed to work wherever they are posted. The thought of an option is unnerving as they are all senior officers of standing and reputation.

‘House hunt’ continues

All eyes are on the sprawling campus of Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute to house the Andhra Pradesh legislature for the next ten years. The institute, spread over 30 acres in the posh Jubilee Hills area and equipped with readymade infrastructure, is considered an ideal place for setting up the Assembly and Council of the State. Bureaucrats are working overtime to see if the campus can provide adequate accommodation to political parties, 18 statutory committees and their sections and leaders of the ruling and Opposition parties.
